Dojo Discernments
Hi all! Here is your weekly dose of Dojo Discernments, where I share nuggets of thought gained on the mats this week!
No Shortcuts
When it comes to things like a 10 day water load for a weight cut, there are no shortcuts. You have to do every small detail correctly. Else you will suffer the consequences. Likewise in any venture worthwhile, adhering to all the small details adds up to the big picture.
Whether it's cutting 16 pounds or a thieving health, there are no shortcuts to getting it right.
What Does a Water Load Weight Cut Look Like?
Day 10: 1 3/4 gal
Day 9: 1 1/2 gal
Day 8: 1 1/4 gal
Day 7: 1 gal
Day 6: 1 gal
Day 5: 1 gal
Day 4: 3/4 gal
Day 3: 3/4 gal
Day 2: 1/2 gal
Day 1: 1/4 gal
Make sure you are keeping up electrolytes and trace minerals up the whole time!
No need to starve yourself. If you do your body will go into fight or flight mode and won't release the weight. Feel good and the weight will come off!
Sauna continuously on the lead up so your body is accustomed to sweating when it comes time to shed the last pounds before weigh ins!
Sharp Mind
A sharp mind is what wins the battle. Sometimes rest is needed for a sharp mind. Other times, you need to get destroyed and beat down to reveal the newest layer of sharpness as you grow from it. I'm in that stage right now. Coming from crawling hand and knees exhausted in a take down session with coach JFLO, to feeling very ready for battle.
Destroy the body, sharpen the mind.
The Study and Practice of Jiu Jitsu
Jiu-Jitsu is studied as a science but expressed as an art.
Without scientific studying of the game, we'd have holes and gaps in our effectiveness. Without transferring our approach to an art, we'd suffer from the limited approach science provides and would be ineffective in application.
Study the game as a science but when it's game day express it as an art.
Competition Week
We are coming for that Finishers 135 belt this Saturday!
You can catch the action on FloGrappling. Be on standby for some highlights!
Let me know in the comments what you would like to see next to the dojo. Be it a new instructional topic or newsletter post topics 🤙🏽🙏🏽
